- Redefine the Role of nonprofit actors in addressing challenges around settlement services
- Identifying relevant international experiences and approaches to the issues related to settlement services.
- Critically presenting the Canadian model of settlement services as a case of best practice globally
- Shaping societal attitudes towards newcomers and immigrant integration.
Objectives
- To provide Pre-landing Services to newcomers.
- To Provide immediate and advanced Post-Landing Services to newcomers.
- To provide family counselling, health (including mental health) information, and linkages to newcomers and low-income people.
- To offer free legal support in immigration, refugee, and citizenship law to eligible newcomers and low-income people.
- To provide various career counselling and guidance services to newcomers and low-income people.
- To provide guidance and counselling to internationally trained professionals regarding credential recognition and licensing.
- To provide language acquisition services to newcomers to help them communicate in one or both of Canada's official languages so they can access Canadian society and its opportunities, decision-making, and services.
- To provide support services to newcomers to access sports and recreational facilities, system navigation, and community engagement.
- Provide community services such as improving access to libraries, parks, and transit services; enhancing road maintenance; and improving neighbourhood safety and police relations
