Language Acquisition Program

"Language is the door to a culture. Deprived of language skills, one is denied access/entry to society and its opportunities for participation, decision-making, and services. It has economic, social, and political ramifications as well. The need for language training is important for a whole range of needs from the most basic, survival needs (e.g., information) to the more sophisticated levels (e.g., citizenship, articulation of policy, or advocacy." (ISPR, p. 59)
This Program helps a newcomer acquire basic knowledge, skills, and exposure to become self-sufficient in communicating one or both of Canada's official languages. In addition, this Program is intended to help newcomers to meet the requirements of the Canadian job market, day-to-day life, and cultural assimilation.
