The Program is designed and implemented to keep the newcomer families safe and together by ensuring child protection. We identify that parenting practices considered abusive in one culture, such as corporal punishment, may be considered acceptable in another. Our trained and licensed child welfare professionals assess parenting practices through cultural lenses and promote education among newcomer families regarding what is considered child abuse and neglect in Canada. We offer awareness programs and seminars defining parents' duties, rights and responsibilities and offer them a better understanding of the child protection laws that prevail in Canada. We help the needed families to connect with various community resources that provide programs and support services that promote child safety and well-being. Our volunteers, who are child protection professionals, offer individual counselling to the families to address and resolve any concerns that may have the potential to impede their abilities to care for their children safely.
